Hungarian Christmas candy

It is usually made of fondant, covered by chocolate and wrapped in shiny coloured foil or paper. A long time ago people hung on them the Christmas tree as decoration. Nowadays a lot of families hang only ornaments on the tree, and the Christmas candies are put in a beautiful bowl and they are part of Christmas decoration.

When I was a little girl, we decorated to tree with these special candies. According to the Christian tradition the Christmas tree can be collected and the candies are picked off after the 6th January. My father and I (and a lot of other fathers, mothers and children) couldn’t wait until 6th of January and every day we stole one candy off the Christmas tree in secret, but we restored wrapping as if the candy had still been there. When we cleaned up the tree and there was a big surpise. There was only wrapping paper on the tree, and a few candies. Fortunately my mum and sister don’t like sweets, so they didn’t mind this little mischief.
