In February or March when our vitamin supplies are running out, and the sun doesn’t shine a lot, more and more people are getting ill. Hungarian people know 2 cures for treating the cold. One is the fruit brandy (pálinka), the other is Chicken broth.
I’m writting about the second now. The chicken broth is made easily, but it is time-consuming because it takes 4 or 5 hours. We buy the chicken for rural farmer sin the countryside, where this chicken can run, scratch a lot, and peck grass during its whole life. These are very important so that the meat contains many vitamins, trace elements, Omega 3 and 6. in addition to the meat there need many vegetables in the soup for example carrots, parsley, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, or green peas. These are cooked together, and before eating it pasta is put in it. The result is really regenerating. When my family start to show symptoms of cold, immediately I take the largest pot and I cook a huge portion which is enough for several days – because you can’t cook only a little.
Then we are sipping the hot soup and we are getting better.
